Cindy Bertram – Bio

Cindy Bertram

Cindy’s family has a long history at SHS beginning with her grandmother, Hazel Jordan Orme, who was graduated in 1905, and continuing with her father and mother, Charles “Chick” (’29) and Lucile Schlensker (’31) Orme. She graduated in 1958, and her son Jon in 1989. Cindy’s husband Ray was graduated in 1948, and her brother Hank in 1962.  Many of Cindy’s uncles, aunts, and cousins also were graduated from SHS.
Since graduating, Cindy has been a life member of the SHS Alumni Association (since 1991) and served as the Scholarship chairman for over 20 years. During her tenure, Cindy has coordinated the distribution of over 900 scholarships valued at over $600,000.
Cindy Graduated from IU in 1962 with a BS in Business and stayed another year to earn her MS in Education
Cindy spent 30 years as an educator: business education teacher, counselor at SHS and PMHS, and dean of girls at SHS before retiring in 1996.  Cindy is also a Member of IU Varsity Club, a Life member of IU Alumni Association, and a Charter member of Delta Delta Delta S. Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter and state reference chairman for Indiana.
Cindy spearheaded the founding of Perry Township Families in Action and served as its president and is a Charter member of Southside Youth Council (now Reach for Youth). Cindy is also a longtime member of South Group Women’s Committee of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and currently a member of the Greater Southside Business and Community Alliance Interurban District Project.
