A Southport graduate of 1983, Kelly Sawyers has dedicated both her professional and personal life to service within the community.
After graduating from Southport, Kelly went on to become the owner and operator of the local newspaper, The Southsider Voice. In a time when access to print media is waning, Kelly has managed to keep her work relevant, reliable, and free to her readers. As the area’s primary independently-owned newspaper, The Voice has become a staple on the Southside of Indianapolis.
Not only does Kelly serve the Perry Township area professionally, she is also philanthropic in a personal capacity. She serves as a key figure in the Feed the Streets initiative, a food pantry dedicated to feeding the families of Southport Alumni and their families in need. She is a member of the Keenan Stahl Boys and Girls Club and is an active advocate for the homeless population in Perry Township, regularly providing hats, coats, and gloves to those who need them. Kelly Sawyers is truly invested both professionally and personally in the betterment of the area and the Southport Community.
In her personal life, Kelly also enjoys spending time with her family, namely her two sons, both of attended Southport, and their families.
